Classic Homemade Waffles

YieldMakes about 4 Belgian-style waffles

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. Preheat your waffle iron.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. A few small lumps are fine.
  5. Lightly grease the waffle iron if needed.
  6. Pour the appropriate amount of batter into the waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually 3 to 5 minutes.
  7. Serve immediately with maple syrup, fresh fruit, whipped cream, or butter.

Tips & Notes

  • For extra-crispy waffles, separate the eggs. Mix the yolks with the wet ingredients, beat the egg whites to soft peaks, and fold them into the batter just before cooking.
  • Enjoy with toppings like blueberries, strawberries, bananas, chocolate chips, or toasted pecans.
